Upholstery Addicts

We run either four or six-week courses as a two or three hour session every week. These are available either in the mornings or evenings depending on which suits you.

My small classes of five people means I can dedicate time to each student. As well as learning a new skill, it’s a great place to meet other people interested in upholstery and share ideas on what you intend to work on. It also gives you chance to work at home between classes to practice the techniques learned.

What do I need to bring?

All you need is a project – either a simple chair or stool to begin with. We provide all professional upholstery tools, and each student will have their own compressed air staple gun. You will eventually need the top fabric – we will measure your chair and discuss your fabric choices in the first class. I do keep a range of designer fabrics here you can buy if you wish. If you’re not sure about how suitable your chair is, please email me a photo to ania@upholsteryaddicts.co.uk before the course.

Do I need to have any experience?

No prior experience is needed – the classes are designed to be suitable for beginners and improvers. They are mixed ability so people can learn from each other.

Where are the classes?

The address is 18 Old Hollings Hill, Guiseley, Leeds, LS20 8EW
There is parking either on the drive or on the road outside.

How much does it cost for a course?

It’s £170 for a 12 hour course spread over four or six weeks. Any extra upholstery materials used here will be charged at cost.

What will I learn?

I will guide you through the process from initially stripping the chair down to the frame, through the application of webbing and foam, and finally applying the fabric of your choice. Depending on your choice of project, you will be shown and practice some of the following skills:

Contemporary or traditional upholstery techniques

Correct and safe use of professional tools.

How to clean, restore and repair your project chair if required

Stripping down the chair in preparation for the new fabric

How to correctly apply webbing

Upholstery knots

Simple buttoning techniques

How to make and apply piping

Fitting fabric around the seat or legs

Correct use of a domestic and industrial sewing machine

And many more techniques and skills…
